Avondale Estates

The Avondale Estates Historic District was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in December 1986. The level of historical significance is attributed to the planning efforts behind the development of Avondale Estates, as well as to the architectural and landscape components present in the district.

Avondale Estates, just east of Decatur, has a lot going for it as well.   It too started life as a streetcar suburb like its neighbors to the west.  At that time, it was called Ingleside.

Avondale Estates is the only documented example in the southeastern United States of an early twentieth century planned community.

It is located to the east of Decatur in the 1-285 and it is approximately seven miles east of downtown Atlanta.

It got the municipality status in 1920. Till then it was maintained very well by the local communities.

If you are looking for a place which is calm nad neatly maintained, then this is the place for you.
