Candler Park

Candler Park lies to the east of Little Five Points and downtown Atlanta, surrounding Euclid Avenue and McClendon Avenue on the east side of Moreland Avenue. As a neighborhood made for walking, joggers, dog lovers, and families; push stroller’s frequent Candler Park’s sidewalks. The PATH bicycle route, public golf course, the Candler Park pool and the neighborhoods namesake park offer residents a number of outdoor community activities. In addition, the Candler Park village features eclectic shops, delicious fare from the Flying Biscuit and other local eateries, and a market with a staggering assortment of wines. Candler Park features an abundance of country Victorians and Craftsman bungalows.

Originally the city of Edgewood, established 1890, its citizens voted in 1908 to become part of Atlanta. The map above covers the Candler Park area, bounded by Clifton Road on the east, De Kalb Avenue (where the Georgia Railroad tracks are) on the South, Moreland Avenue (the eastern boundary of Inman Park) on the west, and North Avenue on the north.

After a brief decline during the Depression, War and early Cold War years, when many houses were subdivided and rented by the week, Candler Park began an upswing in the late 1960's and today is an integrated, diverse neighborhood dedicated to remaining that way. A community of poets, activists, musicians, lawyers, engineers, idealists, working folks, computer drones.... we have some of Atlanta's best entertainment values around. Regardless of if you have a tattoo, purple hair, a pin stripe suit, or haven't cut your hair in 10 years, Candler Park residents are pretty apt to accept you as you are.

The homes in the area range from beautiful old 2-story Craftsman style homes to brand new houses. The houses themselves run the range from immaculately maintained and restored to the seemingly abandoned. Prices have climbed a bit over the last several years as people began to discover this little commune.

Want to play nine rounds of golf?  Got $7?  That's how much the Candler Park Golf Course charges for the day.  Or how about going to the opposite end of the cultural spectrum for a tattoo? Not counting the restaurants along Moreland Avenue, the famous and fabulous Flying Biscuit bakery and cafe and Fellini's pizza on McClendon and Radial on De Kalb Avenue are a few to start with.
